This clump forming epithetic perennial has a basal rosette of leathery toothed mid-green leaves. It has funnel-shaped green-white flowers that are surrounded by yellow-white to green bracts and appear in a upright cluster at the centre of the plant in summer.

It prefers moist, composted leaf mould and a warm humid environment in a shaded position with wind, frost and drought protection.
