This upright dioecious shrub has many branches that form an open rounded habit. It has dark green oblong leathery leaves and the cone-like yellowish flower is accompanied by yellow leaf-like bracts and appears from spring to summer.

Leucadendron tinctunis naturally found in the north, western and Eastern Cape of South Africa growing in poor to moderately fertile, well drained soils that are tending acid. It prefers a protected sunny position and is frost and drought tender.

This plant is grown for its colourful bracts and is planted in parks and gardens along borders or in group plantings for screening. It is suitable for coastal regions tolerating poor soil and establishes in 2 to 3 years. It can also be grown in a container or planter boxes as a courtyard specimen and the flowers are cut for floral arrangements.ID 1518
