This sub-shrub forms a low spreading mat-forming habit with small oval-shaped bright green leaves. The tiny whitish bell-shaped flowers are tipped in purple and appear in a raceme from spring to early summer.

Thymus nitidusis naturally found in Sicily growing on hillsides in well drained moderately fertile soils with a neutral pH. It prefeers a open sunny position and is drought tolerant but frost tender.
Thyme is a prostrate sub-shrub that is grown for its cushion-like habit and is used in herb or cottage gardens or as a ground cover in garden beds. It is also planted in containers, establishing from division in 1 to 2 years. It is not a commonly available species but the plant has an excellent dense texture and is used as a spill-over in rockeries. ID 1506
