This coniferous tree forms a slender conical habit with dark brown smooth to fissured bark. The grey-green needle-like leaves are persistent on the tree and the small reddish male flowers appear during spring followed by yellow-grey female cones.

Pinus jefferyiis naturally found in North America from Oregon to California and western Nevada. It grows in most well drained moderately fertile soils in a open sunny position and is frost and very drought resistant once established.
Jeffrey Pine is a stout tree that is grown for its conical habit and is used in parks and large gardens for group plantings or as a specimen. It is also used as a windbreak establishing in 3 to 5 years and is suitable for inland or low mountain regions. In cold climates the mature size is reduced. ID 1490
Note:
In the northern areas it is found in altitudes up to 3,000m (10,000ft) and in the southern states to 1,000m (3,500ft) and may attain a mature height of over 60m(200ft) but under cultivation it only attains half this height. The bark sheds in plates revealing bright new bark during early summer.
Pinus jefferyi is closely related to Pinus ponderosa sharing many simular botanical features.
