This graceful palm has a swollen base with an arching grey trunk with a maximum girth of 300mm (1ft). The arching feathery fronds are yellow-green with drooping leaflets and the creamy-yellow cup-shaped flowers are followed by large woody nuts.

Cocos nuciferaorigin is uncertain and has naturalised throughout the tropics growing in moderately fertile sandy soils. It prefers an open sunny position and is drought and frost tender but salt tolerant.
