This upright shrub has a bushy rounded habit that becomes sparse. It has narrow lanced-shaped sticky dark green leaves and the saucer-shaped yellow centred white flowers appear from mid-spring to summer.

Cistus ladaniferis naturally found from south-west Europe to Northern Africa growing in poor to moderately fertile very well drained sandy to rocky soils in protected sunny positions and is drought tolerant but frost tender.

The Crimson-spot Rockrose is grown for its showy flowers and shrubby habit. It is planted along borders and a low screen or as a specimen plant in small gardens. It is also used in arid gardens and establishes in 2 to 3 years tolerating coastal or inland conditions but is sensitive to frosts. ID 1448
