This rhizomatous perennial has upright foliage and forms a clump. It has mid-green lanced-shaped leaves and the blue saucer-shaped flowers appear sparsely in a cluster above the foliage on tall leafy stem from late spring to summer.

Aristea eckloniiis naturally found in central and southern Africa growing in mountainous and coastal regions. It prefers a well drained fertile deep moist sandy to light clay loam that is rich and organic in a open sunny position and is marginally drought tolerant but frost tender.

This perennial is grown for its blue flowers and is used as a border plant or as a specimen in small or cottage gardens. It is also grown in containers or in roof gardens establishing from seed in 2 to 3 years. It is also planted around water features in sub-tropical gardens. ID 1431
