This tree-like succulent forms an upright habit with sparse squarish fleshy branches that are up to 200mm (8in) thick. The dark spines are short, thick and sharply pointed and the yellow cup-shaped flowers appear in clusters from spring to summer.

Euphorbia ammakis naturally found in southern Arabia growing well-drained sandy soils in an open sunny position and is drought tolerant but frost tender.
Tree Euphorbia is grown for its rigid habit and is used in large gardens or botanical collections as a specimen. It is also grown in arid or cacti gardens and as a container plant when young. It establishes from cuttings in 3 to 5 years but is slow to reach tree size. ID 1391
