This vigorous shrub is upright with low branching forming an irregular crown of glossy dark green oval leaves. The tube-shaped fragrant white flowers appear in terminal clusters from late spring to early autumn followed by capsular fruit.

Escallonia bifidais naturally found from Brazil to Uruguay in woodlands and in scrub on lowlands or in the mountains. It tolerates most well drained fertile, moist soils in a wind protected sunny position and is moderately frost tolerant but drought tender.
White Escallonia is grown for its flowers and bushy habit. It is used in gardens as a specimen or in shrub borders as a screen or informal hedge. It is also grown against walls establishing in 2 to 3 years and is suitable for coastal positions tolerating salt laden winds. ID 1385
