This tree has an upright trunk with a rounded spreading crown with aromatic bright green leather leaves. The yellow-green saucer-shaped flowers appear in clusters towards the end of the branches from late winter to spring followed by purple berries.

The timber is used for house interiors or delicate woodworking. The native Indians used the leaves to relieve headaches and as an insect repellent.
