This shrub to small tree has downy covered branchlets and forms a bushy habit. It has large rounded lobed dark green leaves and the bell-shaped deep-pink flowers appear in clusters in summer and erratically throughout the year.

Phymosia umbellatais naturally found in tropical Mexico growing in moderately fertile moist well drained soils. It is susceptible to frost or cold conditions preferring a humid environment in a sunny protected position with some mid-day shade.

Globe-mallow is grown for its colourful flowers and lush foliage and is used in shrub borders or as a specimen in tropical gardens. It may form a small tree establishing in 2 to 3 years and is grown in a container under glass in cold climates. The high nectar producing flowers attracts bees. ID 1346
