This perennial succulent is branched at the base producing aerial roots and forming an upright habit. It has large fleshy rounded glaucous green leaves that are scalloped on the margin and the pendant bell-shaped dull red flowers appear in late winter.

Kalanchoe fedtschenkio is naturally found in Madagascar growing in well drained, gritty light soils in an open sunny position and is frost tender but drought tolerant.

This succulent tolerates dry conditions and is grown in rockeries, containers and is used for mass planting in garden beds for its attractive foliage and masses of flowers. It is also grown as an indoor plant in regions where temperatures fall below 12ºC (55ºF) and establishes in 1 to 2 years. ID 1338
