These carnivorous rhizomatous plants form a clump with bright green linear leaves and some of these leaves are modified to form pitchers with lids. The solitary yellow-green pendant cup-shaped flowers appear during summer and it is normally found in bogs.

Sarracenia speciesare naturally found growing in nutrient deficient acidic bogs from Canada to Florida in Northern America. It grows in damp peaty acidic soils that are wet and boggy in a semi-shaded to bright filtered light with wind, frost and drought protection.
These carnivorous plants are grown as a specimen both in boggy soils and as a container plant. In cold regions it is grown under glass and in warmer climates as a houseplant. However some species occur naturally as far north as the Canadian artic. It established from division in 1 to 2 years.ID 1309
Note:
They vary in the pitcher shape and trapping method but primarily consist of a cylindrical tube that contains nectar and a ridge lid. The colour of the upper parts of the pitcher varies from red to maroon highlighting the net venation.
