This rhizomatous fern has upright vase-shaped foliage and forms a clump. The arching mid-green divided fronds are triangular with slender dark leaf stalks and the fertile fronds appear in summer. It is grown in cooler climates tolerating temperatures down to -10ºC (50ºF).

Pteris fauriei is naturally found from Japan to China growing in well drained fertile moist humus rich sandy soils. It prefers a shaded to a semi-shaded protected position and is frost and drought tender.
This small fern is grown for its foliage and spreading habit. It is used in ferneries or around water features or as an understorey plant in gully settings or small gardens. It establishes from division in 1 to 2 years and requires little maintenance. ID 1307
