This succulent perennial has erect fleshy stems with offsets and has compact foliage. The fleshy oval pale-green leaves have a reddish margins and the tube-shaped fragrant yellow flowers appear in erect clusters during spring.

Kalanchoe thyrsiflora is naturally found in South Africa from North to West and the East Cape growing in semi arid regions in well drained moderately fertile sandy-stony soils in an open sunny position. It is frost tender and drought tolerant.

This succulent perennial is mass planted in arid gardens or rockeries or grown as a potted indoor plant. It is also suitable for roof or balcony gardens and in cool climates it is grown under glass. It establishes from division in 2 to 3 years and after the plant flowers it normally dies and requires replacing. ID 1293
