Aglaonema commutatum is naturally found in the Philippines and Indonesia growing in humus rich well-drained moist soils. It prefers a semi-shaded position with high humidity, though will tolerate dry air and is frost and drought tender.

The Chinese Evergreen is grown for its foliage and is planted along borders of tropical gardens or as an understorey plant in a low light position. It is also used as an indoor plant or glasshouse specimen in cool climates. It establishes from division in 2 to 3 years but tends to be slow growing.ID 1284
