Begonia rex is naturally found in northern India (Assam) growing in humus rich moist but well drained soil in a semi shaded protected position and is wind, frost and drought tender.
The original species may be difficult to obtain but many cultivars are commonly cultivated and used as indoor specimens or grown in shady moist parts of the garden. They establish from division in 1 to 2 years.ID 1259
