Hibiscus coccineusis naturally found in southern North America from Georgia to Florida. It grows in a well drained fertile deep moist sandy to light clay loam that is rich and organic and prefers a full sun to semi shade protected position and is drought and frost tender.

This colourful perennial is an excellent specimen plant for a small or tropical garden or grown as a glasshouse specimen in cold climates. It is fast growing and establishes in one season but may be difficult to obtain in Australia. It may require support for its slender stems and prefers a sub-tropical climate. ID 1232
