This rhizomatous perennial has hollow rounded upright stems and forms a clump. It has dark green tapering rounded linear leaves with prominent cross-partitions and the brownish spike is loose and drooping and appears during spring.

Baumea articulatais naturally found in Australia in all states except the Northern Territory growing along the coast and tablelands around and in ponds or watercourses up to 1m (3ft) deep.

It prefers a wet sandy loams and grows in an open sunny position and is drought tender and mildly frost resistant.

The Jointed Twig-rush is a hardy perennial that is grown for its clumping habit and foliage. It is planted in and around ponds and watercourses as a habitat plant or for stabilising soils.
