This rhizomatous perennial herb has upright foliage and forms a clump. It has long upright-spreading linear mid green leaves and the white star-shaped flowers appear in a terminal cluster from late spring to early summer.

Stypandra umbellata is naturally found in Australia on the east coast of New South Wales growing in well drained, fertile moist light soils in an open sunny to semi shaded position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

This attractive small clumping perennial is grown for its flowers and clumping habit. It is planted along front garden borders or is used in patio pots and planter boxes. It is also used as an understorey plant in a native garden and establishes in one season from division and has a long flowering period. ID 1212
