This shrub has slender upright spreading supple stems that form a open rounded habit. It has crowded dark green lanced-shaped leaves on the pubescent branchlets and the fluffy white honey scented cup-shaped flowers appear from spring-summer.

Kunzea ambiguais naturally found on the east coast of Australia from central New South Wales to Victoria and Tasmania growing along the coast and in the southern tablelands in heath and woodlands. It also occurs in cleared areas and regenerates after low intensity fire.
It grows in moderately fertile well drained sandy to clay loams with reliable moisture in a sunny to semi shaded open position and is drought and frost tolerant.
Tick Bush is grown as a specimen in garden borders or bushland gardens for its fragrant flowers and foliage contrast. It is also planted in tubs and planter boxes and establishes in 1 to 2 years tolerating most soil types. It is commonly found in urban bushland around Sydney. ID 1207
