This large rainforest tree forms a shaft-like trunk up to 1m (3ft) diameter with smooth to flaky bark and is buttress at the base when mature. It has glossy green broad lanced-shaped leaves and the white bell-shaped fluffy flowers appear in clusters in late spring.

is naturally found in Australia from the central east coast of northern New South Wales to south-eastern Queensland, appearing in rainforests along watercourses or in scrubland.

The Giant Water Gum is a long lived large tree that is grown in large gardens and parks as a specimen or for shade. It is also planted in rainforest gully plantings as an emergent. It establishes in 3 to 5 years and is fast at first becoming stately in 20 years. This tree is not suitable for urban gardens. ID 1190
