This upright-branched small to medium size tree forms a densely rounded crown of glossy green lanced-shaped leaves. The fluffy white flowers appear prolific from spring to summer and are followed by red edible fruit. The branchlets are distinctly 4-angular.

Syzygium australeis naturally found on the east coast of Australia from lower New South Wales to northern Queensland growing in sheltered watercourses near rainforests.

It prefers an open sunny position and grows on well drained deep fertile moist sandy to clay loams that are rich and organic. It is salt and frost tolerant but drought tender.

The Brush Cherry is grown for its flowers, colourful fruits and shrubby habit. It is planted in garden borders for screening and may be trim to form a hedge. It is also trained to form a small shade tree or can be used as topiary specimen establishing in 2 to 4 years and is long lived. It is suitable for coastal regions tolerating temporary inundation and salt laden winds. ID 1187
