This perennial has a short stem with a basal rosette of spoon-shaped lobed dark green leaves. The yellow wheel-shaped flowers are held above the foliage on a hollow stem and appear throughout the year followed by parachute-like seeds.

Taraxacum officinaleis naturally found in the Northern Hemisphere growing in an open sunny position and grows in most well drained moderately fertile soils and is salt, drought and frost tolerant.

It has been used for medicinal purposes since the tenth century as a tea to promote bowel regularity and as a treatment for liver ailments. The leaves are also edible and are a rich source of vitamins A - C. It is not commonly cultivated and is normally regarded as a weed.ID 1177
