This clump forming perennial is commonly grown as an annual and forms upright rosettes with oval mid-green leaves. It has yellow-eyed trumpet-shaped pink, lilac or blue flowers in clusters that appear from late winter to spring.

Primula obconica is naturally found in China growing in mountainous regions amongst thickets or forests amongst rock outcrops or on dry limestone cliffs at an altitude of 500 to 3300 m (10,000 ft).
It prefers a well-drained sandy stony organic rich moist soil with a pH 5-6.5 and grows in a protected semi shaded to full sun position. It is frost and drought tender.
The Poison Primrose is a grown for its colourful flowers. It is mass planted for bedding displays in parks and gardens or used in patio pots and planter boxes. It is suitable for coastal and low mountain regions and is planted in front garden borders or rockeries. It establishes in 1-2 years but may be short lived. ID1161
