This variable shrub forms an upright or spreading habit with slender branches. It has dark green oblong leaves that are silvery on the undersides and the creamy star-shaped flowers appear in a cluster from winter to spring.

Phebalium squamulosumis naturally found on the east coast of Australia from New South Wales to Victoria growing on the coast and the tablelands in forests or heaths normally in well drained sandy soil. It prefers a shade to semi-shade protected position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

Scaly Phebalium is grown for its flowers and bushy habit. It is planted in small to medium size gardens along borders or as a specimen plant. It is also used in tubs and grown in courtyards and is suitable for shady gardens or as an understorey plant. It has a moderate growth rate and establishes in 3 to 4 years. ID 1157

There are up to 10 sub-species that have varying flower colour, white, yellow or cream and leaf shapes that are narrow to broad.
