This small shrub has a fibrous trunk with spreading branches that form an open rounded crown. It has grey-green narrow elliptical leaves and the small cup-shaped red flowers are arranged in a bottlebrush-like spike that appears during spring.

Melaleuca fulgensis naturally found in south-west Western Australia growing in well drained sandy-gravelly loams on sand-plains or granite outcrops and along water courses. It prefers an open sunny position and is frost tender but drought tolerant.
This variable shrub is commonly grown in small to medium gardens for colour in shrub borders or as a specimen. It is an excellent bird attracting shrub and is suitable for coastal or inland regions. It establishes from cuttings in 2 to 3 years. There are many natural hybrids available with varying flower colours.ID 1143
