This perennial climber forms a prostrate to twinning habit with silky haired stems. It has divided mid-green leaves that are composed of 3-rounded leaflets with wavy margins and the scarlet pea-shaped flowers appear in a raceme from spring to summer.

Kennedia prostratais naturally found on the east coast of Australia from Victoria, New South Wales to Queensland and extending to south-west Western Australia. It is also found in South Australia and Tasmania occurring on old dunes, woodland and heath in sandy soil types.
It prefers a moderately fertile well drained sandy to sandy loam soil that is tending acidic in a semi-shaded to full sun position and is frost and drought tolerant.
