This shrub is upright with an erect stem and spreading branches that form an open crown. It has thick leathery oval grey-green toothed leaves and the white tube-shaped flowers appear in a cluster during winter.

Hakea cristata is naturally found in south-western Western Australia growing near Perth in tall sclerophyll shrubland on well drained, moderately fertile sandy to clay loam in an open sunny position and is frost tender but drought resistant.

This small shrub is grown for its flowers and its foliage. It is planted in small to medium size gardens, parks and native gardens for foliage contrast. It is also used in shrub borders and bushland settings establishing in 1 to 2 years and is very drought hardy.
