This shrub is upright-bushy with woolly branches with no lignotuber and a dense crown of oak-like leathery grey-green leaves. It has large terminal yellow flower heads that appear during winter and are used in fresh or dried floral arrangements.

is naturally found in south-west Western Australia growing on well drained, fertile moist light soils in an open sunny position and is frost tender but drought tolerant.

Urchin Dryandra is a showy shrub that is grown as a specimen plant or as an understorey plant in large gardens and parks. It is cultivated for the cut flower industry and has reasonable success growing out side its native region but it suffers from Phytophthora cinnamomi.
