This terrestrial fern has an upright rhizomatous stem up to 300mm (12in) that is covered in browns scales and forms a clump. It has divided lanced-shaped bronze to green fronds and the fertile fronds appear during midsummer.

Blechnum brasiliense is naturally found from Brazil to Peru in South America growing in a protected semi shaded position in humus rich moist soils that are well drained. It is frost and drought tender.
