This small tree has a short trunk with upright spreading branches that form a compact rounded crown. It has glossy green elliptical leaves and produces short-lived fluffy-like scented cream flowers that are tinged pink in a spike during spring.

Barringtonia neo-caledonica is naturally found in New Caledonia growing in well-drained moderately fertile moist sandy soils in an open to protected sunny position. It is frost and drought tender but salt spray tolerant.
This attractive tree is grown in tropical gardens, parks or coastal positions as a specimen or for shade. It is sensitive to the cold and will establish in 3 to 5 years. Naturally it is only found in New Caledonia and is very suitable for a coastal tropical climates. ID 1075
