This large tree has a trunk up to 2m (6ft) diameter that is prominently buttressed with spreading branches that form a rounded crown. It has dark green lanced-shaped leaves and the green-white bell-shaped flowers appear in a raceme during winter.

Elaeocarpus grandisis naturally found on the east coast of Australia from northern New South Wales to northern Queensland.
It prefers a medium to heavy alluvial soil that is fertile and moist and grows in a open sunny position and is drought and frost tender.
The Silver Quandong is a large tree that is grown in parks, forests and large gardens as a specimen and is used for shade. The timber is sought after for plywood and boat planking. It has an initial fast growth rate establishing in 2 to 3 years and is long lived. It is not suitable for small gardens. ID 1027
