This variable shrub to small tree is well branched with a thick trunk and forms a compact rounded crown. It has glossy dark green rounded leaves and tiny blue trumpet-shaped flowers appear in a terminal cluster from late spring to early summer.

It is planted in coastal or inland gardens along borders for screening or maybe trimmed to form a hedge.
