This rhizomatous perennial has narrow dark green leaves and forms a clump. It has arching dark green grass-like leaves and the white to greenish tube-shaped flowers appear in a terminal raceme above the foliage on a long scarp during summer.

It prefers a well drained, fertile moist sandy soil in an open sunny position and is frost and drought resistant.
