This perennial grass has upright foliage that forms a rounded tuffted habit. It has slender grey green flat linear leaves that arch with age and the tiny flowers appear in a panicle on long stem above the foliage during autumn.

It prefers a well drained moderately fertile sandy soil in an open sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant.
