This large tree has a shaft-like trunk with bark that is rough at base and sheds in irregular patches revealing pinkish-grey branches that form an open crown. It has narrow lanced-shaped glossy green leaves and the white flowers appear in clusters during summer.

Eucalyptus propinqua is naturally found in Australia growing on the east coast of southern Queensland and northern New South Wales appearing in hilly regions and on the lowlands normally within 100km (50 miles) of the coast.
It prefers a clay loam that is derived from shale but is also found on sandy to rocky loams that are moderately fertile and moist. It grows in an open to protected sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant.
The Small-fruited Grey Gum rarely attains its full height under cultivation and is grown for its stately habit. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a lawn specimen or used along roadsides. It is also planted in bushland settings attracting birds and is fast growing and establishes in 3 to 5 years. ID 928
