This hardy attractive bamboo is grown in parks and large gardens along borders for screening or as windbreak. It can also be trimmed to form a hedge or is grown in tubs and planter boxes. The cultivar 'Shiroshima' has very attractive foliage and is grown as a specimen plant. It may require controlling in confined areas and establishes in 2 to 3 years tolerating severe winters. ID 915
