This variable running bamboo has an upright habit with the canes (culms) arched from the weight of the large dark green lanced-shaped leaves. It is moderately invasive and under cultivation it normally reaching 1m (3ft) tall.

It is also planted around water features or swimming pools. It is slowly invasive and may require containing preferring a well drained soil, not boggy.
