Drepanostachyum falcatum, nIs naturally found from east Asia to Himalayas growing on the plains and in the adjoining hillsides.
It prefers a shaded to semi-shaded protected position and grows in well drained, fertile moist sandy to clay loams and is drought tender but mildly frost resistant.
Blue Bamboo is normally found growing in the dappled light of woodlands and is used as a soil stabiliser or as weaving material. It is also grown in containers for indoor and outdoor use, in shaded positions and for screen planting. It is non-invasive and establishes in 3 to 5 years.
Note:
The culms have a blue powder colour that from a distance gives the plant a blue appearance and age from terra cotta to green. They are not very straight and have swollen nodes.
This species will tolerate drier air and has a small root system making it ideal for growing in containers indoors.
