This perennial sub-shrub has a woolly rhizome and unbranched stems that form a tufted erect habit. The tassel-like divided branchlets that are accompanied by panicles of male or female flowers that appear on different plants during spring.

Restio tetraphyllus is naturally found in Australia from New South Wales to Queensland along the coast, growing in heath and open forests in well drained, moderately fertile damp sandy soils in an open sunny position and is drought tender but mildly frost tolerant.

Tassel-rush is grown for its tufted habit and its foliage. It is planted in bushland settings or used in small gardens as a specimen. It is also planted in pots and tubs and is suitable for coastal regions. It has a medium growth rate and establishes in 2 to 3 years. ID 898
