Canna indica is naturally found in South America growing along forest margins in moist to wet positions. It prefers a moderately well drained organic rich soil in an open to protected sunny position and is drought and frost tender.

Canna is grown for its clumping habit and its flowers. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen in a damp position or mass planted for bedding displays. It is also used in tropical settings for its flower colour and can be grown in tubs or planter boxes. It establishes in 1-2 years and is commonly planted around a water feature.ID 880

Note:
In some regions it is regarded as a weed and is controlled by digging out the roots and spraying with glyphosate as a follow up.
