Digitalis purpurea is naturally found from England to Europe growing in deciduous or coniferous woodland clearings and margins.
It perfers a well drained, nitrogen rich moist sandy-loamy soil and tolerates lime in a semi-shaded to sunny wind protected position and is frost and drought tender.
Foxglove is grown for its flowers and clumping habit. It is planted in small or cottage gardens along perennial borders for colour or planted in shaded positions under trees. It is also used in sheltered courtyards or the flowers are cut for floral arrangements. ID 857
