Duchesnea indica is naturally found in southern Asia growing in cultivated fields or in woodland settings. It prefers a fertile well drained organic rich moist light soil in an open sunny position and is frost tolerant but drought tender.

Wild Strawberry is grown for its foliage and small fruit. It is planted in small or cottage gardens along perennial borders as a ground cover or in rockeries as a spill-over. It is also planted in patio pots and hanging baskets. Under ideal conditions the plant becomes a weed as it self-seeds readily and is a common garden escape plant that is controlled by physical removal of the plant and its roots. ID 841
