Ensete ventricosum is naturally found in tropical Africa growing on the lower mountain slopes in well drained organic rich moist soils in a wind protected sunny position and is frost and drought tender.
The Abyssinian Banana is grown for its foliage and its tree-like habit. It is planted in large gardens or parks along borders for a tropical effect. It is fast growing and establishes in 1 to 2 years but is short lived. It is suitable for coastal or mountainous regions and is an excellent feature specimen in sub-tropical gardens but will tolerate cooler conditions. In cold regions it is grown in a glasshouse as a specimen. ID 755
Note:
It is very fast growing but requires ample moisture and room to mature.
