Hedychium gardnerianum is naturally found from northern India to the Himalayas growing in well drained organic rich moist soils in a semi shaded to sunny protected position and is frost and drought tender.

Ginger Lily is grown for its flowers and clumping habit. It is planted in the understory along borders for a tropical effect or used around a water feature. It is mass planted in large gardens or parks on embankments or in damp gullies and establishes in 1-2 years. In warmer climates it is regarded as a weed that grows along creeks or other damp places.
