This perennial grass has an upright or prostrate habit with the tillers and forms a clump. It has narrow mid-green linear leaves that turn reddish during autumn and the purple-brown flowers are held above the foliage on a slender stem in midsummer.

Themeda triandra is naturally found throughout Australia growing from the coast to inland. It prefers a well drained moderately fertile sandy to stoney soil in an open sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant.
Kangaroo Grass is grown for its hardiness and its foliage. It is planted in parks and gardens as a specimen or used on mass along borders. It is used in freeway plantings or in low maintenance parklands but may become a fire hazard if left uncut. ID 724
