This invasive perennial grass has rhizomes with tillers and forms a clump. It has bright green narrow lanced-shape leaves with longitudinal white to pale green stripes and the new growth is pale pink. The flowers heads are pale pink turning brown in autumn.

If the plant needs to be contained in a garden bed it should be place inside a sealed pot that is buried in the soil.
