Agave species are naturally found from the northern to southern America and extend to the West Indies.

They grow in well drained, fertile to moderately fertile moist light soils in an open sunny position and are frost tender but drought tolerant.

Century Plants are grown for their foliage, flowers and drought hardiness. They are planted in arid or succulent gardens in groups or as a specimen. They are also planted in tubs and planter boxes or used in roof gardens requiring little care once established. They are fast growing and establish in 2-3 years and are moderately long lived. They are planted in public places as a barrier but care should be taken as they have sharp spines. In frosty regions the plants must be placed in a protective area. ID 711
