This large palm has crowded mixed height multiiple trunks that form a clump. It has divided fronds with mid green triangular leaflets that are asymmetrically and the creamy white cup-shaped flowers appear in a dense spike from spring to summer.

Caryota mitisis naturally found in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines growing as an understorey plant in forests.
It prefers a well-drained organic rich moist soil in a sunny to semi shaded protected position and is frost and drought tender.
The Clumping Fish Tail Palm is grown for its foliage and its clumping habit. It is planted in parks and large gardens as a lawn specimen or in-group plantings for a tropical effect. It is also planted along borders for screening or used around large water features. It establishes from division in 3 to 5 years but after flowering individual trunks die.
